本书共分十二个单元，分别为欧美各国不同时期、不同风格的经典英文或英译剧本选段，它们中的大部分精选于剧本的某一场（scene），少数为两场，另有一出完整的独幕剧。每个单元包括以下五部分内容：1）作家及作品（Introduction）2）作品选读(Selectedreading) 3）思考及讨论问题(Questions) 4）相关阅读书目(Further reading) 5）媒体改编(Media adaptations)
